Members Who Gave Their Lives In the Line of Duty

Jack Arthur Wright

Bradley Beach Police Department

On May 31, 1976, at approximately 12:05 a.m., while off duty, Jack foiled an armed holdup attempt by two felons.  Jack took foot pursuit of the fleeing felons and apprehended them a block away from the Quick-Check Food Store in a dark street.  As Jack directed the felons out of the get-away vehicle, the driver shot Jack twice in the chest at close range mortally wounding him.

Charles (Bud) Cozzens

Bradley Beach Police Department

On August 8, 1964 Sergeant Charles (Bud) Cozzens was alone on patrol just a couple of blocks away from Police Headquarters on Main Street.  The roads had been covered by a recent rain.  Sergeant Cozzens' patrol vehicle skid and struck a steel light pole.  The accident proved fatal to Sergeant Cozzen and a tremendous loss to his family, his community, and to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
